S T U D I O

"I can't remember exactly what happened, but I can remember exactly how I felt"

My studio practice currently reflects my own personal confrontation with the concept of the French term ‘Déjà vu’ or what’s most recently being brought to light, ‘Deja Reve’, meaning already seen, or already dreamt. I experiment play and problem solve through this theme, exploring identity and how we as human beings respond to our memories, using them as building blocks or stepping stones in our psychiatric development. How we choose to perceive our reality and how this reality repeats itself. How do we respond? What does this reality look like to us looking into the past?

My aim is to translate this idea of the perception of hallucinated and sometimes even false realities of our memories through paint with great focus on pattern and use of colour, allowing the viewer to question what is real and what is simply a warped memory.

I am particularly concerned with the work of David Hockney, Jean Michel Basquiat and Hernan Bas and find myself responding to their ideas through my own work.

For my Degree Show in 2021, I plan to create a space reflecting these ideas and create a series based on my tagline.
