T E A C H I N G  PR A C T I C E

This page compiles every placement that I have used as milestones in completing my teaching training with NCAD, from primary school to mentoring young artists at second level. Below is my teaching philosophy.

'To develop a complete mind - study the science of art, study the art of science. Learn how to see. Realise that everything connects to everything else '

My Philosophy of Teaching

The aim is simple really: it is not to ensure that students leave school as accomplished artists, but as people who question, resolve and improve. people who can think for themselves, by themselves and see the world a little differently. To appreciate the visual word around them and to become a person who is eager and willing  to know just that little bit more.

I pride myself on my empathy and my emphasis on wellbeing in my teaching and thoroughly believe that education, whilst important, comes second. Knowing my students is a significant factor, but knowing that they can experience a happy and safe learning environment for the time they are in my art class is something I plan to maintain and control, given the opportunity

I believe art should be a rewarding experience and that students should leave having learnt something that could help them in the real world, using learning content  that relates to them as individuals and makes them feel seen. This involves collaboration and inclusivity, problem solving and meaningful discussion, with less pressure on the end result, but rather with emphasis on how we got here. I believe each student is of great value and has something to offer.
